The American Correctional Association (ACA) reaccredited the Sheriff's Office in 2016 based on the attainment of excellence in the operation of the Adult Detention Center (ADC). ACA standards are the national benchmark for the effective operation of correctional facilities across the country. The ADC has been accredited by ACA since 1983.

"We welcome the challenges of meeting and often exceeding the stringent standards for accreditation and thoroughly documenting how we do it," said Sheriff Stacey Kincaid. "Our professional staff and committed volunteers are proud of the reputation we have for running a very clean, orderly and safe facility."

A review team of experienced, independent auditors awarded a perfect score for the ADC and Sheriff’s Office employees on all applicable mandatory standards and 97% on non-mandatory standards. The ACA standards address services, programs and operations essential to effective jail management. Through the accreditation process, the Sheriff’s Office is able to maintain a balance between protecting the public and providing an environment that safeguards the life, health and safety of staff, inmates, volunteers and visitors.

The Sheriff’s Office is also accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission and the Virginia Department of Corrections.
